2025 has already been an incredible year for Messy Eater - a standout debut live session for BBC Introducing, a secret Sofar Sounds show, a celebratory headline show in Leeds plus support from Apple Music, Amazing Radio and numerous press tastemakers for his first two EPs (Starters and Southern Fried). Showing no signs of slowing down, Messy Eater unveils ‘Haunted Heart’, a very special halloween collaboration with much-loved illustrator My Sunbeam.

‘Haunted Heart’ begins with a suitably dark and devilish atmosphere, as a warped choir sample combines with eerie, cackling laughter. The track then crashes into an insistent, floor-moving bass groove complete with a fairground organ riff like something from a classic 80s John Carpenter horror movie. While Messy Eater’s forlorn vocal compares memories of a past love to an indefatigable, ghostly presence, this is a halloween track in the ‘Thriller’ mould - the beats never let up and the hooks are like poltergeists in your ears.

Messy Eater is the brand new music and illustration project from Pete Bott, whose previous projects have been supported by NME, The Guardian, Notion and BBC Radio 1.  Only launching at the end of 2024, Messy Eater has already been championed by BBC Introducing, Apple Music, Amazing Radio and many press supporters of emerging talent.  My Sunbeam is a London-based illustrator originally from Michigan known for his playful fusion of retro cartoon aesthetics.
