ARTIST: MESSY EATER

TRACK: SLOWCOACH

DATE: 18 APRIL 2025

LABEL: NUTRITIOUS SOUNDS

Following hot on the heels of his first live session for BBC Introducing and support for his debut EP ‘Starters’ from Apple Music, Amazing Radio and numerous press tastemakers, Messy Eater releases ‘Slowcoach’, the first single from his second EP ‘Southern Fried’.

Drawing inspiration from The Dust Brothers’ patchwork sampling production on Beck’s ‘Odelay’ and the Beastie Boys’ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ albums, Messy Eater mashes up 90s hip hop and alt-country with an idiosyncratic 21st century spin to create ‘Slowcoach’.  The slow swaggering boom bap beat and country blues guitar riff combine with Messy Eater’s trademark playful sampling and a huge singalong chorus.  The track celebrates escaping from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind for a life in the slow lane: “I hear people say, there’s not enough hours in the day / not so fast / slowcoach”.

Messy Eater is the brand new music and illustration project from Pete Bott, whose previous projects have been supported by NME, The Guardian, Notion and BBC Radio 1.  Growing up on a diet of mixtape culture and genre-agnostic electicism, Messy Eater lives in a world of "anything goes" melodic songwriting and kaleidoscopic sampledelica.  Drawing comparisons with Gorillaz, Beck, The Flaming Lips and The Avalanches, Messy Eater combines the flavours of wry lyrical observations on modern life with irresistible hooks and a unique self-produced sound.
