MESSY EATER YEARNS FOR FRIENDSHIP IN POIGNANT AND UPLIFTING FIRST SINGLE FROM ‘BLUE SUNDAE' EP

The lost art of making friends
Messy Eater

Since launching in late 2024, Messy Eater has emerged as “one of the most creative alternative pop acts currently operating in the UK” (Plastic Mag).

Recently playing his summer festival debut at Camper Calling alongside Nile Rodgers & Chic and Primal Scream, Messy Eater’s first two years have been incredible.  Receiving regular editorial support from Apple Music, Messy Eater has been championed by Amazing Radio (Tom Robinson, Jim Gellatly and Shell Jenner) and BBC Introducing (Jericho Keys).  He has also played a standout debut live session for BBC Introducing, a sold out Sofar Sounds show and at the historic York Theatre Royal as one of 10 “Breakthrough Artists” at Aesthetica Festival.

Following the June release of his ‘Comfort Food’ EP (“bursting with colour, hooks and playful invention” (Record Of The Day)), Messy Eater returns with the ‘Blue Sundae’ EP.  Inspired by Picasso’s “blue period”, Joni Mitchell’s confessional ‘Blue’ album and 90s jazzy hip hop (often sampled from classic Blue Note jazz records), the EP is an introspective collection of tracks that use warmth, raw honesty, musicality and gentle humour to deal with feelings of loneliness, sadness and loss.

The EP’s first single, ‘The lost art of making friends’, typifies its sound and sentiment.  Opening with reflective Fender Rhodes chords, the vocals vividly sketch a life of yearning for social connection amidst tech distraction, AI proliferation and career obligation.  The track transcends in the chorus with an uplifting vocal hook and hip hop influenced bass and drum groove.  Tasteful touches of jazz sax and vocoder add depth and texture to the poignant and relatable mood.

Messy Eater is the new music and illustration solo project from an artist whose previous projects have been supported by NME, The Guardian, Notion and BBC Radio 1.  Drawing comparisons with Gorillaz, Beck, A Tribe Called Quest and The Avalanches, his ‘Blue Sundae’ EP is out in Spring 2027.
