MESSY EATER CALLS OUT ANXIETY FOR GATECRASHING THE PARTY IN HIS HEAD

Artist: Messy Eater

Title: Vibe killer

Date: 6 March 2026

Label: Nutritious Sounds

Since his first release in late 2024, Messy Eater has had a dizzying rise - a standout debut live session for BBC Introducing, selection from over 200 entries to be one of 10 “Breakthrough Artists” to play the historic York Theatre Royal and a sold out, secret Sofar Sounds show, plus support from Apple Music, Amazing Radio (Tom Robinson, Jim Gellatly and Shell Jenner) and numerous press tastemakers.

Messy Eater burst into 2026 with the January release of the uplifting anthem ‘Learning to love what I see in the mirror’ (“a warm, hook-filled moment of self-acceptance built for modern anxieties and late-night singalongs” - Introvert Disco), the first single from his forthcoming Comfort Food EP.  Now, he continues that EP’s rollout with its second single ‘Vibe killer’.

‘Vibe killer’ starts with the sound of a mobile phone ringing, which nods to the pervasiveness of our portable distraction devices and also sets up the central lyrical theme - an internal conversation between the good time seeking Messy Eater and the constant intrusion of his anxiety.  Musically, the track moves seamlessly from a laidback 90s hip hop groove in the first verse to a body moving, huge singalong chorus then to 808 beats and a half-rapped second verse before climaxing with Queen-style stacked harmonies at the end of the second chorus.  Throughout, Messy Eater maintains his usual playfulness, balancing relatable lyrics with joyful melodies to call out his anxiety for gatecrashing the party in his head.

Messy Eater is the new music and illustration solo project from an artist whose previous projects have been supported by NME, The Guardian, Notion and BBC Radio 1.  Drawing comparisons with Gorillaz, Beck, The Flaming Lips and The Avalanches, Messy Eater has been championed by BBC Introducing, Apple Music, Amazing Radio and many press supporters of emerging talent.
